June 1, 2009   Happy 35th Anniversary

Yep, that’s right.  This year Bob and I celebrate our 35th anniversary. Can you believe it?  Plans are developing for a possible extended road trip to Tennessee, Illinois and other parts west.  Watch for continuing details of this trip. 

May 1 and 2  MPWC Benevolence Rummage Sale

This Friday, our church will celebrate the sixth anniversary of our Annual Benevolence Rummage Sale.  Even now, the church is full to capacity with gently and not so gently used STUFF.  This rummage sale is a fund raiser for our benevolence ministry at the church.  A ministry that works within the auspices of the church to do chartiable work both inside the church and outside in the community.  The ministry offers financial assistance to those in crisis, ie: fire, flood, loss of job, divorce, etc, but other services also, like financial counseling, referrals to local businesses, discounted services (free or reduced oil changes for single moms), and our newest push for the fall of 2009, the Donate-A-Snow-Tire campaign, working to put good winter tires on cars that carry children from less fortunate families on snowy roads every day.  
 
This Rummage Sale is the only fund raiser our church has for the Benevolence Ministry each year.  This time around, a special benefactor has donated tons of furniture, authentic china, lamps, and household items that will be sold to needy families at pennies on a dollar.  How cool is that?  But the really great news is that ALL of the money raised-100 per cent of it will be moved from the ministry to people who desperately need it.  In economic times like what we are facing right now, this is good news. 

Over the last five years, this ministry has administered the giving of over $40,000 to those who desperately needed help, and the majority of it was done anonymously, so that no individual got the praise that God himself deserves.
 
If you’re in the area this weekend, drop by.  It’s the biggest rummage sale of its type in the county…maybe in the state.  MPWC is located 1/4 miles southof Springfield Road on the Berwick Turnpike in East Smithfield, PA. 

April 3.4 and 5  Easter in Cricket County

 

Easter at MPWC includes two great programs.  First the kids will be singing traditional Easter songs and contemporary favorites.  Then, the comedy team at MPWC will take the stage for another Eddie McPherson play:  Easter in Cricket County.  Friday and Saturdays shows begin at 7:30pm.  For those who can’t make to the night time performances, there is a Sunday matinee happening at 1:45pm on April 5. 

March 21, 2009 Praise Upon Praise Concert

This concert features Tommy Rocco and Friends.  The fun starts at 7:30pm at MPWC and will be followed by a reception in the church fellowship/athletic hall, where home-baked goodies will be served in abundance.  Stop by and treat yourself to a wonderful worship celebration.  Ya know the toes will be tapping once Tommy starts strumming.  Tell everyone you know.  It’s gonna be great!  A love offering will be taken during the program, with all money being used to build and outfit the Don Lane Memorial Softball Field the church hopes to build out back of the building.  This field will include a pavillion and lots of room for wee ones to play, while the adults have their own fun.  We praise God for the ability to invite our neighborhood over for a game, and pray that many people will enjoy the facility once it’s been built. 

February 14, 2009  Dona Dean Benefit Concert

 

This incredible Valentine’s Day Concert, beginning at 7:00pm, promises to be one of the best events of it’s kind this winter.  Having been asked to help promote this concert, I’m psyched to be a part of the blessings I think lay in store for the Dean family as a result of the event.  Dona Dean was diagnosed with cancer last year.  Since that time she has been forced to quit her job.  This concert is a gift to Dona from her local church, family and friends who want to help Dona and her husband, Jeff, meet the demands of this disease.  Cancer takes a toll on each family it affects, financially, emotionally and spiritually, so that any help received is a blessing to both the sufferer and those who love them and work so hard to provide for their care.  Thank you for supporting this event with your attendance and your prayers.

October 18, 2008  Strings of Joy concert

Strings of Joy: Threads of Inspiration, a benefit concert featuring Chuck Stringham and Joy Cooke, will take place at my church, Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church.  I’m the organizer for the event and Michael and Leslie Roche will be the beneficiaries of all proceeds raised that night.  Michael and Leslie are trying to adopt.  This money will help them in the application process.  Chuck and Joy are such great singers, and there will be readers and drama, too.  I think it’s going to be great!  Concert starts at 7:30pm and there will be a “Meet-the-Artists” reception afterward in the hall adjacent to the church.  for more info, check out the MPWC website at www.mpwesleyan.org

September 24, 2008  Baby Hoose is here!

Our adorable new family member is here, and his name has finally been revealed.  Robert Jessup Harrison Hoose was born Wednesday, September 24th at 8:29am.  He arrived in the world at a weight of 6lbs-15 oz. and was nearly 20 inches long.  He’s just perfect! 

Mommy and Daddy are doing fine, and in fact are sleeping as i write this blog.  Never fear though, Uncle Matt and Lumpa are keeping a vigilant watch over baby Jessup.  He came home from the hospital with the green and brown striped jammies on that Bob and I bought him a few months ago.  It has an embroidered moose on the chest.  what a cutie!  God is good, all the time.

  Baby Joy

Yep, you guessed it.  This is Megan’s due date.  She and BJ are expecting a boy, so the title for this event is a little  misleading.  I’m hoping to be in Rochester either the day of the delivery or shortly thereafter.  It will be a first grandchild for Bob and me.  Yipeeee!

September 5th   Commandment 11 concert at MPWC

The concert begins at 7:30pm at Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church.  I know it’ll be great!

August 22, 2008 Baby Shower for Megan and BJ

We’re having a baby shower for Megan and BJ on Friday night at 8:00pm.  We’re gonna do it up right with Cake and Ice Cream, chips and presents.  Sweet!  No baby games, though.  Just baby bliss!

August 16, 2008 Venture Crew Chicken BBQ II

Yep, that’s right, we’re doing it again.  Saturday, Aug 16th, the Venture Crew 49 gang are having another Chicken BBQ.  Bob and I will be hawking chicken and fixin’s at two locations in Troy, PA: Family Dollar and Dollar General.  I’m hoping we can sell out early, and i can wisk off to the dog show in Owego.  If not, I’ll probably go to the show on Sunday.  We’ll see…

July 26, 2008  Venture Crew 49 Chicken BBQ

I’m helping out with the Chicken BBQ that Venture Crew 49 of Troy, PA is holding at The Tractor Store, Elmira Street, Sayre, this Saturday.  Chicken Halves, BBQ to perfection and partnered with Potato Salad and Baked Beans. Yum, Yum!  only $6.00 per meal and the money goes to help the crew fund upcoming activities, buy supplies and pay expenses.  We’re going to start serving at 10am and keep ‘em going until we run outta chicken.  If you’re hankerin’ for something mouth waterin’ to eat on Saturday, come on down.  We’ll feed ya real good!

Keely Jones is getting married this Sunday, July 20th and I’m going to be there to hear the “I do’s”.

I’m so excited for her.  Her Fiance is a gent she met at the college in Georgia where she works.  He’s a PhD too! 

I’m praying for Keely, and hope that she and Mark are blissfully happy together.
