Living Under a Dark Canopy

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed one. Acts 4:25-26

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thess 5:17

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? Why does it seem our populace is so thirsty for blood? Why do they have to run after materialistic gain, traffic in human cruelty, or promote the flood of dissipation that chips away at the spiritual condition of many Americans? Why don’t they see the futility of a life lived for self, with no regard for God?

Why, indeed?

The answer points to our enemy, that one in this world who is a consummate recruiter of men and women, and he has none of the scruples our God possesses.

He causes us to live in the center of a deep, dark wood, where we exist as the only beacons of light. He would extinguish it if he could, but he can’t. For inside us is hidden this luminescence that comes from knowing Jesus and is constantly shining out in front of us to light our path and signal others to “come this way”.

It might seem bad that we are forever shrouded in this darkness, but it’s not.

In fact, it is good, very, very good that we find ourselves in dark places. For where does light shine brightest, but in the deepest dark of dark?

Today, let’s thank God that he has planted us where we are and lit the fire of his salvation in our hearts.

Let’s be grateful that we stand under this canopy of sin as lights, guiding others to safety. The Bible says be joyful in all things.

I know that sometimes it seems like the raging and plotting that is going on in our world threatens to ruin us and take us further into the unknown, where hope is dead and deliverance cannot find us.

That is not possible, Christian!

For as long as Jesus abides in us, and we with Him, we are safe. Circumstances don’t dictate the will of God. Only God does that, and the only thing that matters in dark places is faith that expresses itself through love. (Gal 5)

God is the source of all love and the author of your safety. By prayer and supplication He will always take care of you. Always.

Has fear kept you from experiencing the peace of God for a while now?  What threatens to keep you trapped or confused? What can you do to fight back against the darkness?
